Update Mike Silcock

Arrest in the case of Pc Mike Silcock who was hit by a car in Didbsury Road, Heaton Mersey, on 6 March last year!

Stephen Benson, 25, of no fixed abode, has been accused of causing death by dangerous driving and conspiracy to commit fraud. He is due before Stockport magistrates on Wednesday. Four other people remain on bail in connection with the investigation, police said.

Mike was off duty when he was deliberately mown down on Didsbury Road (A5145), Heaton Mersey, shortly after 11.30pm. He was taken to Stepping Hill hospital with a serious head injury, but died a short time later.

A yellow BMW Three Series M3 Coupe, registration number MM51 VOH, was seen driving away from the scene. The same car was later found burnt out at a golf club on Mauldeth Road West. Another man, 25, was also taken to hospital and he has now recovered from his injuries.

Four men, 29, 24, 19 and 21 were arrested on suspicion of murder. All four remain on police bail.
