A convicted rapist who slipped out of his ankle monitor after he lost a court ruling that reinstated a lengthy prison term was captured Monday at a hotel near Houston, ending a weeklong manhunt.
Nejad made his way to Pearland, Texas, where he was arrested without incident Monday morning. He had bleached his hair blonde and was found with a long black wig, authorities said. He was scheduled to check out of the hotel Monday and may have been seeking to cross the border to Mexico, they said.
U.S. Marshal Richard Mecum would not say how authorities tracked down Nejad, who is now being held at the Brazoria County Jail. But he said Nejad had no relatives in Texas and may have been seeking to cross the U.S. border with Mexico.
