Do you recognise this man?

March 18, 2011 By Alice

On November 25, 2007, Jason Wei, restaurant owner and father of two young children, was murdered during a robbery at the Osaka Ya Sushi Restaurant at 815 West Naomi Avenue, Arcadia, CA. Despite efforts, there are few leads.

I quote from the Arcadia Police Officer’s Association Info Blog:

“The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted today to offer a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect in this case.

Supervisor Michael Antonovich hosted a joint news conference with the Arcadia Police Department to announce the reward. Chief Bob Sanderson and Detective Dan Crowther spoke on behalf of APD.

Please link below to see footage of the news conference and surveillance video of the crime. The suspect is described as a male, Hispanic or African-American, black beanie, black jacket, black pants, black shoes, wearing a sweatshirt underneath jacket, with unknown logo on front.”

On the tape, the suspect can be seen entering through the restaurant’s backdoor just before 9:30 p.m. confronting three employees.

“As he was moving those individuals to the front of the restaurant, for whatever reason, he fired a shot that struck Mr. Wei,” said Arcadia Police Lt. Ron Buckholtz. Police are unsure why the suspect fired his weapon, and there was no sign of resistance during the robbery. The shooting itself was not caught on tape, but the suspect was seen moments after shooting walking toward the front door of the restaurant, then returning to the cash register to demand money.”

My friends have told me that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors matched the reward posted online so it now stands at $40K. Anyone with information is asked to call APD Detectives at 1(626) 574-5160. Anonymous crime tips canbe left at 1(800) 78-CRIME or, go online and use Wetip.com.

Author Notes

Since 2009, I write about unsolved cases that need renewed media attention. I only do research and leave active investigations to the authorities.

My posts cover homicides, missing and unidentified people, wrongful convictions, and forensics as related to unsolved cases.

On book reviews: I only review select works of true crime, crime fiction, and historical fiction/mysteries. The stories have to fit my website's theme, tone, and research. It is my prerogative to not review a book. Please check the FAQ page for more.

My databases are free to the public. Cases are sorted by the victim’s last name.

If you have any questions about my website please check the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, the About page, and the tabs in both menu bars. If you cannot find the answers there, please contact me.

Thank you,

Alice de Sturler
