Beaufort, NC – A retired pregnant race horse was shot and killed, and now lawmen are asking for your help in tracking the shooter.

Carteret County deputies say someone shot “Breeze” in the head between Sunday and Monday at the owner’s property on Taylor Farm Road, outside of Beaufort in Carteret County on the North Carolina coast.
The horse’s owner, Elizabeth Loftin, says the horse was worth approximately $30,000.
Detectives say they believe that the horse was specifically targeted and the person who shot her meant to kill her.
Carteret County Investigators say they “are seeking any information that may help lead to the arrest for the person or persons responsible for the senseless shooting and killing of a retired pregnant race horse.”
Investigators were back on the scene Tuesday searching for evidence.
North Carolina General Statute 14-360 states that any person who shall “maliciously torture, mutilate, maim, cruelly beat, disfigure, poison, or kill” any animal shall be guilty of a Class I felony which is punishable by a maximum of sentence of 15 months in prison.”
