Eby’s hands under the loupe…
Authorities will get a closer look at the hands of the man accused of sexually assaulting and drowning 3-year-old Riley Fox.
Smudged prints were found on the back door to the Foxes’ Wilmington home at the time of the 2004 abduction and murder, but testing of those prints has yet to find a match, case evidence shows.
Will County Circuit Judge Richard Schoenstedt granted the motion Wednesday for a “major case” set of handprints as Scott Wayne Eby appeared before him, silent and shackled in a bright yellow jail-issued jumpsuit.
Riley’s parents, Melissa and Kevin Fox, were inside the packed courtroom. Melissa Fox often dabbed her eyes with tissue, a box of which was passed around the first two rows, filled with Fox supporters. They declined to comment after the hearing.
In May, Eby, 38, allegedly confessed to Riley’s slaying, and a partial DNA sample from the crime scene matched his. He is due back in court Sept. 8, 2010.
